Family Owned Since 1937
For nearly five generations, the Robbins Family has been a strong presence in the Oxford business community. Beginning in 1937, the Robbins Family owned and operated a local gas station and repair shop. The Robbins family business evolved to a bus company, a construction company, road building company, as well as a house moving company during the construction of the Buffumville Dam in the early 1950’s. The family businesses included Robbins Sand and Gravel, a fully functional sand and gravel pit on Old Webster Road in Oxford. Soon afterwards, greenhouses were built at their garage location on Sutton Avenue to sell flowers and provide animal feed to the numerous local farms in the area. This led to the creation of Robbins Garden Center on Sutton Avenue in the early 1980’s. Today, it is common to see four generations of Robbins’ working in the store and greenhouses.

With the skyrocketing oil prices in the early 1990’s, Robbins Garden Center invested in alternate heating sources- Wood, Wood Pellets, Corn, Bio Products, and Coal to help the community’s heating budgets. Soon afterwards, Robbins Stove Shop was born and included a full showroom of Alternate Fuel Heating Stoves. Robbins staff were trained and certified to recommend, install, and repair the stoves, as they became the largest dealer in New England. The seasonal needs for the “Stove Shop” products complemented the springtime homeowner and landscaper wishes and continued to build a great local company with deep community ties.
The Robbins immediate family has now grown to over 50, many of whom have worked with the Robbins businesses at one time or another. If you’ve ever stopped into “the Store”, you’ll recognize the Robbins family as they’re watering in the greenhouses, running the loader, hand-loading pellets, or delivering your next home project. Over the next 40 years, Robbins Garden Center grew to offer all necessities for local farms, landscapers, and homeowners. Robbins provides the greatest assortment of Annuals, Perennials, Shrubs, Sod, Insecticides and Fertilizers, Garden Supplies, and Yard Ornaments. From their beginnings as a Sand and Gravel Pit, Robbins now offers many types of New England Mulches- available by the truckload or the bag. Their one-stop supply house also helps you feed the birds, wild animals, or your own chickens and horses.
When Robbins Stove Shop first began, the Wood Pellet industry only included four major manufacturers. In the next 25 years, Robbins’ has grown to over 20 wood pellet brands and nearly 25 brands of pellet, coal, and corn stoves. In the early days, you’d see the Robbins family hand delivering wood pellets in the pickup truck. Now, Robbins has a full fleet of delivery van trucks, 6- and 10-wheel dump trucks, flatbed trucks and trailers, and dump trailers.
